Afgelopen week zat Helga van Leur bij De Slimste Mens en zij voorspelde dat we dit jaar een Elfstedentocht gaan krijgen. Niet omdat ze verwacht dat het écht zo hard en zo lang gaat vriezen, maar meer omdat het zo ironisch zou zijn. In deze rare Corona-tijd, zul je net zien dat wanneer alle evenementen afgelast zijn, de Elfstedentocht ineens wél door zou kunnen gaan.
This week, one of our national weather reporters predicted that this winter, we might have weather cold enough to hold our biggest open air speed skating competition. The last time this race was organised, was in 1998. It hasn’t been cold enough since then. This lady didn’t actually think it would be freezing enough this winter (global warming and all that), but she thought it would be the greatest irony; in the midst of the Covid pandemic, now all events have been cancelled, it might just be cold enough to hold that race everyone has been looking forward to for 23 years.
Of die Elfstedentocht nu ooit nog doorgaat of niet, doet er wat mij betreft niet echt toe. Ik ben de slechtste schaatster die Nederland ooit heeft voortgebracht. Maar lekker koud is het buiten wél! En daar hoort natuurlijk een heerlijke sjaal bij!
Whether this skating competition will ever take place or not, is of no real importance to me. I’m the worst ice skater Holland has ever produced. However, the weather is lovely crisp and cold! And that means; time for scarfs!
Ik heb de ongelooflijke luxepositie dat ik soms prachtige nieuwe garens uit mag kiezen bij Katia Yarns. Ook deze winter hadden ze weer ongelooflijk mooie nieuwe bollen in hun assortiment. Toen ik het Katia Concept Edén garen zag, wist ik meteen dat ik daarmee aan de slag móest! Het is namelijk het beste, zachte, pluizige garen dat ik in lange tijd had gezien! De binnenkant heeft een zacht kleurtje dat heel langzaam verloopt en daar omheen zit een heerlijke zwarte pluis. Knuffelgaren. Niets meer, niets minder.
I’m an incredibly lucky bastard that I once in a while get to pick gorgeous new yarn at Katia Yarns. This winter too, they had some wonderful new yarn in their range. When I spotted the Katia Concept Edén, I just knew I had to design something with that. It is the single most soft, fuzzy, best yarn that I had put my hands on in a while. The core of the thread is a soft, understated tone that changes between to shades and that tranquilness is wrapped in soft, black fluff. It’s cuddle yarn. Nothing more, nothing less.
En dus ging ik aan de slag. Een fijne, rechte sjaal moest het worden. Eentje om in te wonen deze winter. Royaal. Ik wilde ook dat het patroon voor iedereen te doen was. En waar ik persoonlijk ook groot fan van ben; een beetje snel te haken. Edén zorgt daar zelf gelukkig al voor, want het garen is geschikt voor naald 6 (ik haak strak, dus ik gebruikte naald 7). Lekker grote stappen, snel thuis! Wat is er fijner dan dat? 😉
That’s how I started working. I wanted to make a nice, straight scarf. A lovely big one, to live in during winter. I wanted the pattern to be simple, yet beautiful. One that could be followed by early crocheters as well. And, my personal favourite feat; one that would work up fairly quickly. Thankfully, Edén takes care of that already. The yarn is suitable for hooksizes 6 / US K, so before you know it, a scarf will come rolling of your hooks! What’s better than that? 😉
Voor deze sjaal gebruikte ik 9 bollen Katia Concept Edén. De sjaal is hierdoor zo lang, dat ik hem 2 keer om mijn nek kan wikkelen. For this scarf, I used 9 skeins of Katia Concept Edén. This way, I am able to wrap the scarf around my neck twice and I was left with enough yarn to add two large tassels. Haak 9l. In de 3e l vanaf de haaknaald 1stk. 1l, 2l overslaan, {1stk, 3l, 1stk} in de volgende l, 1l, 2l overslaan, 1stk in de laatste l. Keer om.
2kl, 1stk in het laatste stk van de vorige rij, sla 1l en 1stk over, 7stk in de 3l van de vorige rij, sla 1stk en 1l over, 1stk in het eerste stk van de vorige rij. Keer om.
2kl, 1stk in het laatste stk van de vorige rij, 1l, 3stk overslaan, {1stk, 3l, 1stk} in het 4e stk, 1l, 3stk overslaan, 2stk in het laatste stk. Keer om.
2kl, 1stk in het 1e stk, 1l, 1stk in het 2e stk, 1l en 1stk overslaan, 7stk in de 3l van de vorige rij, 1stk en 1l overslaan, 1stk in het stk. Keer om.

Recht
Vanaf hier haak je recht omhoog. Wissel de volgende 2 rijen steeds met elkaar af:
2kl, 1stk in het 1e stk, 1l, *{1stk, 3l, 1stk} in het 4e stk van de 7, 1l*. Herhaal van * tot * tot het laatste stk. 1stk. Keer om.
2kl, 1stk in het 1e stk, *7stk in de 3l van de vorige rij*. Herhaal van * tot * nog 6 keer. Eindig met 1stk in het laatste stk. Keer om.
Herhaal deze twee rijen tot je nog iets meer dan 1 bol garen (ongeveer 100 meter) over hebt. Ga dan naar het volgende blokje; minderen.
Minderen
Vanaf hier gaan we minderen. Haak de laatste zwarte rij nog als normaal. De volgende blauwe rij als volgt: 2kl, het 1e stk en het 1e stk van de 7stk sh, 6stk in de 3l, *7stk in de volgende 3l*, herhaal * tot * nog 5 keer. 1stk in het laatste stk, keer om.
2kl, 1stk in het 1e stk, *1l, {1stk, 3l, 1stk}*. Herhaal van * tot * nog 5 keer. 1l, 1stk in het 4e stk en 1stk boven op de 2stk samengehaakt sh. keer om.
2kl, 1stk bovenop de 2stk samengehaakt, *7stk in de volgende 3l*. Herhaal van * tot * nog 5 keer. 1stk in het laatste stk. Keer om.
2kl, 1stk in het 1e stk, 1l, *{1stk, 3l, 1stk} in het 4e stk van de 7, 1l*. Herhaal van * tot * tot het laatste stk. 1stk. Keer om.
Begin nu weer bij stap 1 van het minderen. Blijf minderen tot je nog maar 1 cluster van 7stk in de blauwe rij en 1 keer {1stk, 3l, 1stk} in de zwarte rij over hebt. Eindig op een zwarte rij. Hecht af. Je kunt nu kwastjes aan de uiteinden van je sjaal maken en je sjaal opspannen. Je bent klaar!

Ch2, 1dc in last dc of previous row, skip 1ch and 1dc, 7dc in ch3 space of previous row, skip 1dc and 1ch, 1dc in 1st dc of previous row. Turn.
Ch2, 1dc in last dc of previous row, ch1, skip 3dc, {1dc, ch3, 1dc} in 4th dc, ch1, skip 3dc, 2dc in last dc. Turn.
Ch2, 1dc in 1st dc, ch1, 1dc in next dc, skip 1ch and 1dc, 7dc in ch3 space of previous row, skip 1dc and 1ch, 1dc in last dc, turn.

Repeat increasing like this until you have a total of 7 clusters of 7dc. Then continue to the next part.
Straight up
From this point on, you will work rows straight up. Repeat the same two rows all the time:
Ch2, 1dc in 1st dc, ch1, *{1dc, ch3, 1dc} in 4th dc of 7, ch1*. Repeat from * to * another 6 times. Dc in last dc, turn.
Ch2, 1dc in 1st dc, *7dc in ch3 space of previous row*. Repeat from * to * another 6 times. Dc in last dc, turn.
Repeat these two rows until you are left with a little over 1 skein of yarn (about 100 meters / 110 yards). Then continue to the next part.
Decreasing
From here, we’ll start decreasing. Make the last black rows as usual. The next blue row will be as follows: Ch2, in the 1st dc and the 1st dc of the 7dc cluster, dc 2 tog. 6dc in ch3 space, *7dc in ch3 space*. Repeat from * to * 5 more times. 1dc in last dc, turn.
Ch2, 1dc in 1st dc, *ch1, {1dc, ch3, 1dc} in 4th dc of 7. Repeat from * to * 5 more times. Ch1, {1dc in 4th and 1dc in 2dc tog, tog}. Turn.
Ch2, 1dc in 2dc tog, *7dc in next ch3 space*. Repeat from * to * 5 more times. 1dc in last dc. Turn.
Ch2, 1dc in 1st dc, ch1, *{1dc, ch3, 1dc} in 4th dc of 7, ch1*. Repeat from * to * to last dc. 1dc, Turn.
Now start back at step 1 of the decrease section. Keep on decreasing until you are left with 1 cluster of 7dc and 1 {1dc, ch3, 1dc}. End on the black row. Yarn off. You can now add tassles to your scarf and block your work. You’re done!
