Afgelopen jaar mocht ik op de Kreadoe proeven van allerlei mooie wintergarens van Katia Yarns. Ik kan je één ding vertellen: ik ben verliefd op die hele Katia Concept lijn. Ik was toen nog druk met alle opdrachten en de daarbij horende afspraken van de HaakSTER wedstrijd van Wolplein, dus kon helaas niet direct aan de slag met die mooie bolletjes. Maar toen Katia mij dit voorjaar vroeg of ik hun lente/zomer collectie wilde uitproberen, zei ik daar natuurlijk geen nee tegen!
Last autumn Katia Yarns invited me to a yarntasting to get a hint of their wonderful winter collection. Let me tell you this; I absolutely adored the entire Katia Concept line! At the time I was still very busy with the crochet competition I was taking part in and all that entailed, so I couldn’t directly put my hands to good use with those winter yarns. However, when Katia asked me if I would like to try some of their spring/summer collection, I didn’t know how quickly to say yes!
Ik koos een aantal prachtige bolletjes en toen ik het thuisgestuurd kreeg was ik behoorlijk onder de indruk. De Katia Concept Cosmopolitan is heerlijk zacht en er zit zo’n prachtig subtiel glittertje in dat ik niet kan wachten om hem te gaan dragen. Bijna jammer dat ik er eerst nog een trui van moet maken. De Katia Concept Boheme is heerlijk zacht, licht en luchtig en de kleurtjes zijn subtiel maar vrolijk. Maar de Katia Fluor was het bolletje waar mijn handen echt direct van gingen jeuken. Ik móest daar simpelweg mee aan de slag.
I chose a couple of amazing skeins and when the delivery man dropped it off at my door, I was quite impressed. The softness and subtle sparkle in the Katia Concept Cosmopolitan made me impatient to start wearing it. It’s almost a shame I have to turn it into a sweater first. The Katia Concept Boheme is wonderfully light and airy and the colours are subtle but cheerful. But it was the Katia Fluor that made my hands ache to start working with it. It simply had to be turned into something fun!
Katia Fluor is een katoenen lintgaren dat her en der spikkels heeft en hierdoor onregelmatig haakt (of breit). Ik besloot het garen een praktisch nut te geven: een fijn boodschappennetje of strandtas. Zo’n tas die je makkelijk in je handtas propt en waar je uiteindelijk alles in mee kunt nemen dat je nodig hebt. Je boodschappen, een bosje bloemen, je zwemkleding en een badhanddoek.
Katia Fluor is a cotton tape yarn with a lot of colourful spots. These spots make the crochet or knitting product irregular and fun! I decided to turn this yarn into a practical piece: a nice little shopping tote or beach bag. A little bag that you easily take with you in your handbag, a bag that enables you to transport anything you’d possibly like to take with you. Your groceries, your bouquet of flowers, your swimwear and beach blanket.
Het gratis patroon hieronder is geschreven voor dit garen. Uiteraard is de tas ook te maken in ander garen. Afmetingen van die tassen zullen wel verschillen met mijn eindresultaat.
The free pattern below (for English, scroll way down) is written with this yarn in mind. Of course you can make the bag in any other yarn. Sizes will differ though from my end result.

PATROON
Begin met een magische ring. Haak 2l (2l tellen nooit als 1stk), 3stk in de ring, 3l, 3stk in de ring, 3l, 3stk in de ring, 3l, 3stk in de ring, 3l. Sluit de cirkel met een hv in het 1e stk van de 3stk. Trek de magische ring aan.
Keer je werk niet om. 2l. 2stk in de 3l van de vorige toer (je moet hiervoor dus gevoelsmatig iets ‘terug’). 1stk in de 3 stk van de vorige rij, *2stk om de 3l van de vorige rij. 3l, 2stk om dezelfde 3l van de vorige rij, 1stk in de 3 stk van de vorige rij* herhaal van * tot * tot je het rondje rond bent. Sluit de toer na de 3l met een hv in het 1e stk van de ronde.
2l, *2stk in de 3l van de vorige toer, 1stk in de volgende 7 stk, 2stk om de 3l van de vorige toer, 3l*. Herhaal van * tot * tot je het rondje rond bent. Sluit de toer na de 3l met een hv in het 1e stk van de ronde.
Herhaal dit ritme steeds: {2stk, 3l, 2stk} om de 3l en 1stk in alle stk van de vorige rij. Ga door tot je in totaal 16 toeren hebt gehaakt. Hecht niet af.
Zoek op je vierkant nu aan alle 4 de zijdes de 2 middelste steken. Markeer deze eventueel met een steekmarkeerder. Begin de nieuwe ronde op dezelfde manier als de voorgaande toeren: *2stk om de 3l, 1stk in de volgende stk. Doe dit tot 2stk vóór de 1e steekmarkeerder. Deze 2stk samen haken. Sla de 2 st met steekmarkeerder over. De volgende 2stk samen haken, stk tot het einde van de ronde. {2stk, 3l, 2stk} in de hoeken.* herhaal van * tot * nog 3 keer. Sluit ook deze ronde weer met een hv in het 1e stk.
Herhaal stap 5 nog 3 keer. Sla nu in het midden steeds de 2x 2stk samen gehaakt over en haak de 2 st daarvóór en daarna steeds samen.
Herhaal stap 5, maar in plaats van dat je de 2 st samen haakt vóór en na de 2stk samen gehaakt, doe je dit nu met 3 stk. Dus 3stk samen haken, 2x 2stk samen gehaakt overslaan, 3stk samen haken en weer 1stk in ieder volgend stk.

Ga in dit ritme door. Je ziet dat de tas langzaamaan vorm gaat krijgen. Door de middelste stokjes te minderen, krijgt de tas een vierkante vorm waarbij de hoeken van de oorspronkelijke granny juist in het midden komen te zitten. Ga door met het ritme tot je tas de gewenste hoogte heeft. Ik heb in totaal 18 rijen omhoog gehaakt.
1l, haak nu de kreeftensteek over de gehele boord. Bij de kreeftensteek haak je eigenlijk vasten de verkeerde kant op, dus van links naar rechts. Hij gaat als volgt: steek de naald in de steek rechts van je. Haal een lus op. Sla de draad om en haal hem door beide lussen op je naald. Steek de naald weer in de steek rechts van je en doe hetzelfde. Doe dit over de hele boord van de tas. Op de hoeken met 3l, haak je 4 st kreeftensteek. Sluit de ronde met een hv en hecht af.
Nu gaan we de hengsels maken. Knip 10 draden van ongeveer 2m. Bind de ene kant van deze draden ergens aan vast (of zoek een slachtoffer die het uiteinde even vast moet houden) en draai de draden zoveel mogelijk één kant op. Pak nu een schaar en rijg één kant van de draden door het oog van de schaar. Pak beiden uiteinden van de draad op en met de schaar in het midden laat je de draad helemaal in elkaar draaien. Knip de draad nu doormidden. Je hebt nu 2 hengsels van je tas gemaakt. Knoop de hengels aan de hoeken van de granny squares vast, stop alle losse draadjes weg en je tas is klaar!

PATTERN
Start with a magic ring. Ch2 (every round from now on starts with a ch2. These ch2 never count as 1dc), 3dc in the magic ring, ch3, 3dc in the ring, ch3, 3dc in the ring, ch3, 3dc in the ring, ch3. Finish circle with a slst in the 1st dc of the round. Pull the magic ring tight.
Don’t turn your work. Ch2, 2dc in the ch3 of previous round, 1dc in next 3dc, 2dc in next ch3 of previous round. Ch3, *2dc in same ch3 of previous round, dc in next 3dc, 2dc in next ch3 of previous round, ch3*. Repeat from * to * until end of round. Finish round with a slst into 1st dc.
Ch2, *2dc in ch3 of previous round, 1dc in next 7dc, 2dc around ch3 of previous row, ch3*. Repeat from * to * until end of round. Finish round with a slst in 1st dc.
Repeat this rythm: {2dc, ch3, 2dc} in each ch3 space and 1dc in each dc of previous row. Repeat this for a total of 16 rounds. Do not yarn off.
On your square, on each of the 4 sides find the 2 middle stitches. Optional to mark these with stitch markers. Start the new round like you did all previous rounds, until you reach the last 2 st before the 1st stitch marker. 2dc together. Skip both st with stitch marker (both middle stitches), 2dc together, 1dc in all next dc. {2dc, ch3, 2dc} in ch3 space. Make the other 3 sides of your squares the same way as the 1st; 2dc together right before the stitch marker, skip both st with stitch marker, 2dc together and dc in next dc’s. Close the round as you did all rounds before.
Repeat step 5 3 more times. In the middle of your sides, now skip both 2dc together stitches each time. 2dc together right before and right after these skipped stitches.
Repeat step 5, but instead of making 2dc together right before and after the skipped stitches, now make 3dc together. Keep skipping the 2 middle stitches.

Repeat step 7 1x
Repeat step 5 2x
Repeat step 7 1x
Continue on in this rythm. You’ll see the bag slowly taking shape. By decreasing the middle stitches, the bag will shift the square shape from the corners of the granny to the corners of the decreases. Continue the rythm until your bag has your desired heigth. I have made a total of 18 decreasing rows.
ch1, now make the crab stitch over the entire top of the bag. The crab stitch is basically a single crochet made from left to right. Insert your hook in the stitch on the right side, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook. Insert your hook into the next stitch on the right and do the same. In the ch3 spaces, make 4 crab stitches. Close the round with a slst and yarn off.
Now it’s time to make the handles. Cut 10 straps of your yarn of approximately 2m (2.2 yards). Tie 1 end to somethng (a door knob or find a victim to hold the end while you work) and twist all the straps to 1 side all the way until you feel you can’t twist any further. Then take a pair of scissors and pull one side of the straps through the hole of the scissors. Take up both ends of the straps, let the scissors hang in the middle of your straps and let the straps twist themselves into a nice twisted strap. Cut the middle of the straps. You’ll now have 2 handles. Tie the handles to the corners of your granny bag, sew in all loose ends and your bag is finished!
